Students from multiple Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical School programs traveled to Anaheim, California last week to compete in their respective events as a part of the 2023 Business Professionals of America (BPA) national conference. Six different teams or individuals finished fifth, or better, in the country, highlighting an incredibly successful trip.
EASTLAND CAREER CENTER CHAPTER
The Eastland Career Center BPA chapter represented well with three teams finishing inside the top 11, and both software engineering teams placed inside the top 5, nationally. Anmol Acharya (Jr., Reynoldsburg), Jack Kennedy (Jr., Gahanna Lincoln), Chris Kowalewski (Jr., Reynoldsburg), and Xander Mooney (Jr., Reynoldsburg) teamed up for a third-place finish in the Software Engineering category. All students from Eastland Career Center are enrolled in the Programming & Software Development program.
The team of Slimane Ait Raiss (Jr., Groveport Madison), Jack Gill (Jr., Teays Valley), Paige Ingram (Jr., Bexley), and Caden Mesina (Jr., Teays Valley) placed fifth overall in the same event,
Adam Offord (Sr., Gahanna Lincoln) took home the school’s highest individual placement, claiming third place in the C# (C-sharp) Programming event.
Xander Mooney continued to collect the hardware with a fifth-place finish for his work in the C++ Programming event, marking a second top-5 finish for him, personally.
Also receiving recognition for earning industry certifications include Adam Offord (IT Specialist) and Groveport Madison senior, Hannah Green (Microsoft Office Specialist, 2019 Word Certification).
PICKERINGTON NORTH SATELLITE CHAPTER
The Multimedia satellite program, housed at Pickerington High School North, continued its prominent run of success at the national level with two top-5 teams and an additional top-10 team. This marks the first time that three teams from the Multimedia program finished inside the top 10, nationally.
Of all the teams and individuals representing EFCTS at this year’s BPA national conference, none placed higher than the Visual Design Team, which finished as national runners-up. The team comprised of Pickerington North seniors Marcus Schwartz, Addie Knoll, and Matthias Smith and featured their work in various forms on a series the team created called “Town Under”. Their second-place finish continues a run of 10 consecutive years that a team from the Multimedia program was named a national finalist.
In the Website Design category, the team of Emma Nowlin, Ella Cox, and Will Meyer took home fourth place, overall. The Video Production team of Caden Watts (Pickerington North), Keira Bryant (Pickerington North), Macy Erickson (Pickerington North), and Marshall Wickman (Pickerington Central) finished eighth, overall.
A total of 11 students from the program made the trip to compete at BPA Nationals, including Gahanna Lincoln High School senior, Maxwell Clark, who finished well, but outside of the top 10 in his category.
Collectively, Eastland-Fairfield featured four teams and two individuals to finish inside the top-5, in their respective categories. See below for a list of EFCTS’s top finishers.
