Eight students from the Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools Multimedia satellite program, located at Pickerington High School North, will be presenting their program and the district at the Business Professionals of America national conference after being named state champions earlier this month. A total of 11 students qualified to compete at this year’s national BPA competition.
Twenty-five students from the Multimedia program competed at the BPA state conference and each one earned the honor of walking across the stage to receive a medal for placing inside the top 10 in their event. Instructor Doug Rider reported that for the first time in program history, the program featured two of the top 10 websites and two of the top five videos in the state.
Students from three different event categories earned the title of state champion following strong presentations at this year’s BPA Ohio conference, held March 9-10 at the Hyatt Regency Columbus. Gahanna Lincoln senior Maxwell Clark took top honors in the Individual Presentation category.
He was joined on the top step of the podium by two groups that earned first place. In the Website Design competition, Pickerington North seniors Will Meyer, Ella Cox, and Emma Nowlin took first place overall. Juniors Caden Watts (PHSN), Keira Bryant (PHSN), Macy Erickson (PHSN), and Marshall Wickman (PHSC) teamed up to take first place in the video production team category.
Students that earn first, second, or third place in their respective events qualify for the national conference. Eleven students, total, from the Multimedia program will move on to present at the BPA National Conference in Anaheim, Calif., held April 25-30. A full breakdown of students that competed and their placements can be found below.
“I am incredibly proud of these students for all their hard work, time spent after school and during free periods, and the many hours they spent preparing their projects and honing their presentations,” said Multimedia instructor, Doug Rider.
Following this announcement, Eastland-Fairfield will be sending a grand total of 22 students to the BPA national conference. Eleven students from the Eastland Career Center BPA chapter will join the 11 students from the Pickerington North satellite BPA chapter in Anaheim this April.
The Multimedia program is housed at Pickerington High School North and is one of eight satellite programs offered to 11th and 12th-grade students by Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools. The EFCTS Pickerington North chapter is one of two BPA chapters sponsored by Eastland-Fairfield.
