Marketing & Logistics Qualifies Eight for DECA State Competition

Eight students from the Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools Marketing & Logistics program will be competing at the DECA Ohio state conference following their strong performances at a recent district competition.

The DECA district competition was held at the Fairfield County Workforce Center where more than 140 students from five schools gathers on January 24, 2023. Three Eastland-Fairfield students emerged from the competition with first-place finishes, including junior Eva Walton (Groveport Madison) in the Principles of Marketing category, senior Kevin Inguil (Whitehall Yearling) in the Accounting Applications category, and junior Kristian Dougherty (Groveport Madison) in the Automotive Service category. 

Five additional students placed second in their respective categories. Groveport Madison juniors Neiko McDougal and Trinity Tinney partnered for a second-place finish in the Hospitality Team competition. Junior Richie Saelim (Groveport Madison) placed second in the Principles of Finance area. Fellow Groveport Madison classmate, Senior Jonya Russell, took second place in Retail Merchandising, and Pickerington Central junior, Landon Sexton, finished second in the Apparel and Accessories category.

All eight students that placed first or second in their respective competitions have qualified to compete at the Ohio state DECA competition, which will be held March 10-11 at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Columbus. 

Also medaling with third place finishes at the district level were: 

Kyger Weston (Jr., Groveport Madison), Principles of Marketing Elliot Phillips (Jr., Groveport Madison), Principles of Hospitality Nana Aboagye and Aminata Sow-Mamoudou (Srs., Groveport Madison), Marketing Management Team

These students will also serve as alternates at the state competition. 

The Marketing & Logistics Management program is housed at Groveport Madison High School and is one of eight satellite programs that Eastland-Fairfield offers to 11th and 12th-grade students. The program is also the only one that belongs to the national DECA career-technical student organization.

DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) is a global high school and collegiate student organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management.
