Students at the Eastland Career Center led a one-day fundraising event that generated more than $400 to be donated to the Groveport chapter of Special Olympics.
On Friday, February 25, 2022, students at Eastland Career Center, one of the two main campuses of Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools, held a fundraising event that allowed students to dress down in exchange for a monetary donation to support the local Special Olympics chapter. Students and staff were granted the opportunity to wear jeans in lieu of their normal lab uniform in exchange for their support with a donation of at least $1.
After the totals were calculated, students from the Business Professionals of America student organization reported that $407.20 was collected to be donated to Groveport’s local Special Olympics chapter.
Preceding the Jeans Day fundraiser, students from the Interactive Media lab created a 60-second video campaign that was displayed to the school to promote the event and to support one of its own students, who is a Special Olympic athlete.
“Sometimes it can sometimes be difficult to give back to those communities,” said assistant principal Holly Griffin. “In honor of CTE month, BPA (Business Professionals of America) was able to organize this fundraiser to support a local chapter of the Special Olympics to not only support one of our own who compete, but to also support the organization itself. Being able to do so allowed our students to really give back and make an impact on those within our own community.”
